THE SHIP OF THESEUS (Short Film)
The Ship of Theseus is an abstract experimental short-documentary about the life of the Vietnamese Community living and working in the Sapa Market Compound in the Czech Republic in particular and the concept of "Home" or "Homeland" in general. The short film was made in 2022 and was a part of the "Vẻ Đẹp Điện Ảnh" Competition for Young filmmakers, which was sponsored by Netflix VietNam and was judged by influential and experienced directors as well as famous Vietnamese Actors/Actresses. It also entered the top 10 of the most promising movies and received many mixed reviews from the judges and audience: The plot follows the struggle and the emotions of Vietnamese immigrants who since long stepped foot in an unknown foreign land, also their efforts to make it their home. And therefore demonstrates a vague and abstract concept of "Home". Throughout the film, the audience will have to ask themselves: "What is Home exactly?". The Ship of Theseus is definitely not a usual, typical, orthodox documentary, but it awakes your curiosity and even a little bit of frustration to truly understand what the film delivers.
