ANIMUS (Short Film)

Inspired by the idea of nostalgic feeling in dreams and the Jungian archetypes, our short film asks the question of how dreams reflect the dreamer’s spiritual life, how we can reconnect to our inner selves; also emphasizes on the urge of taking a break from work of a small part of young people in modern society. As our protagonist is a Vietnamese/Asian guy who leaves his country for work – the main source for his nostalgia, a small research on Vietnamese people in Germany, Vietnamese/Asian cinematic styles is supposedly necessary. In relation to that, our short film includes an animation scene. We also take a look at a branch of Asian cinema: Anime – regarding the unique visual styles and storytelling – as references for our editing concept. Besides, small related topics like how to portrait women on screen, toxic masculinity, etc. are also examined in the process of gathering information.
